Heartbleed Bug Update


Dear NDS Users,


A critical, Internet-wide vulnerability with open SSL, known as heartbleed bug, was recently announced and has affected wide ranges of internet facing web application. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption.

Because we host and store your data as part of the NDS operations, we wanted to provide additional understanding around our efforts to secure your data. First of all, here is a spelled out definition of a word that is used in the technical writing you see about the heartbleed bug:

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

The NDS team quickly identified the hosts and appliances within the infrastructure affected by the vulnerable version of OpenSSL and applied the latest security patches issued by the vendors.  All servers and applications hosted with the NDS infrastructure have been secured and no longer vulnerable to OpenSSL’s  heartbleed bug.
